Gavin Manning is a partner of the firm. Gavin completed his Bachelor of Science Degree (Honours Physics) in 1983 at Simon Fraser University. He worked as a research technician for two years at SFU’s Energy Research Institute before returning to study at the University of British Columbia, where he earned a Master’s degree in Physics (1987) and a law degree (1990).

Gavin is an adjunct professor of law at the University of British Columbia and a frequent speaker on topics in intellectual property law. He has chaired the Patent and Trademark Association of B.C. and the Computer Section of the Canadian Bar Association (B.C. Branch).

As a lawyer with both education and practical experience in the sciences and as a registered patent and trademark agent, Gavin provides the firm’s clients with practical, high quality, client-focused service. He is especially involved in: counseling clients regarding intellectual property options and strategies, patent preparation and prosecution in a wide range of technologies (with focus on computer-related inventions, optics, electronics, medical devices, and complicated mechanical devices), providing legal opinions on intellectual property issues, advising on transactions involving intellectual property and licensing intellectual property. When he is not serving clients he enjoys outdoor activities with his family and building steam engines.
